Chorus Frogs Sounding Off

The Pacific Chorus Frogs are getting louder.  Also small egg clusters have been found in the pond that could be chorus frog eggs.  We'll keep an eye on them.  The salamander embryo, seen in their egg clusters, are growing.  They were deposited in late March and should be hatching by mid May.

Cherry Blossoms and Violets

Cherry blossoms in full bloom around pond.

Dog tooth violets blooming like crazy. One of the best years we've seen for these violets on our property.

The native Dogwood tree at the pond's edge is blooming.

Chorus frogs very loud last night.  No eggs found yet.  Very warm yesterday...in the 70s.

Many Salamander Egg Clusters

There are very many salamander egg clusters in the pond. They are expected to hatch in May or June.  We'll be watching. Also unable to identify which species the different clusters belong to.  Most are the California Newts.

Added More Pictures

I've added more pictures to the links above today.  These are mostly from July and August 2009.  Really looking forward to see how the summer pond life changes now that there is more vegitation and habitat.

Weather Still Crazy

Although cold and rain we appear to be at least two weeks ahead of last year in terms of the plant bloom and growth.

It's a bit cold today...down in the 30s last night.

Here is what the little tads looked liked several weeks ago.

And what they look like now.
