Frog Spawning

The pond is supporting many frog and salamander eggs and tadpoles. The red-legged frog, a Pacific Northwest native, is hatching like crazy. We are very happy to see this in that the red-legged frog population in this part of Oregon has been diminishing over the years due to habitat loss and non-native predation. The salamanders are largely California newts and we think rough skinned newts. The newts will probably start hatching in May/June.
